In Sea Pines, Thanksgiving's Busiest Day Is the Friday After

Which day of Thanksgiving week asks the most of a Sea Pines host? On The Sea Pines Resort's 2026 calendar, it's Friday, November 27. That day brings a fishing tournament in the Forest Preserve, a caramel apple festival at Heritage Farm, a Santa visit in Harbour Town, the Christmas tree lighting and the free Gregg Russell Thanksgiving Concert under the Liberty Oak. Thursday is mostly about the dinner table. Friday fills the whole day, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., across three corners of the community.

If family is coming in for the week, that Friday shapes everything else. It decides when guests should arrive, which gate pass makes sense and which orders have to be in a week early.

The week warms up on Monday

The first event of the week starts on Monday, November 23, at Heritage Farm. Thanksgiving Wagon Rides run through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve every day through Saturday, November 28. A 2026 listing on the island's visitor calendar gives hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with rides starting from Heritage Farm. With six days to pick from, the wagon ride is the easiest thing to fit around guests' travel plans.

Wednesday morning is more fixed. The Pre-Turkey Day Sea Pines Dolphin Dash 5K starts at 9 a.m. on November 25 from the Sea Pines Beach Club. The course runs on hard-packed beach sand, not pavement. The race's RunSignup page lists registration at $35, or $20 for ages 0 to 12, and the price goes up after 11:59 p.m. on November 3. Paid registrants get a shirt and bib. Packet pickup is Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Fitness Center, with race-day pickup and registration at the Beach Club from 8 a.m. Both packet pickup and race-day registration close at 8:45 a.m. If a relative wants to run but lands Tuesday night, signing them up ahead of time and bringing the confirmation email saves a scramble at the Beach Club.

Thursday mostly happens at home

Thanksgiving Day has one organized event, a family scavenger hunt in Harbour Town that morning. The rest of the resort's Thursday program is food.

The holiday dining page lists four ways to hand off the cooking on November 26:

  • Thanksgiving takeout, picked up at the Harbour Town Clubhouse
  • A buffet in the Champions Ballroom
  • A prix-fixe dinner at Links, an American Grill
  • A prix-fixe dinner at Quarterdeck

The deadline that comes earliest is for dessert. Harbour Town Bakery & Café is taking Thanksgiving pie preorders for pickup on November 25 or 26, and orders are due by November 19. That's a full week before the holiday, and probably before some guests have even confirmed their flights. Reservation details on the dining page are worth confirming directly, since that page has been reused across several holiday seasons.

Keeping Thursday quiet has a practical payoff. Everyone has the energy for Friday, which runs from midmorning to 9 p.m.

Friday, November 27, hour by hour

Here's the day in order, using 2026 listings from the Hilton Head Island visitor calendar and The Sea Pines Resort:

  1. 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., 23rd Annual Fishing Tournament, Fish Island, 35 Lake Joe Trail. Family fishing for bass, bream and catfish in the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, with prizes. Reservations are required through the resort's events page.
  2. 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Caramel Apple Festival, Heritage Farm. Caramel apples, games, crafts and a bounce house.
  3. Early evening, Santa in Harbour Town. Santa visits before the concert. The resort's concert page has listed the visit as 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  4. Just before the concert, the Harbour Town Christmas tree lighting. This officially opens the resort's holiday season.
  5. 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., Gregg Russell Thanksgiving Concert, Liberty Oak, Harbour Town. Complimentary.

The day moves across the community, starting in the Forest Preserve at Fish Island, stopping midday at Heritage Farm, where the week's wagon rides also begin, and ending on the water at Harbour Town. For a household with grandparents, cousins and a couple of fishing rods, that means three separate outings in one day. Whoever is driving should plan the day like an itinerary.

Fishing gear, fees and age limits aren't listed on the event pages for the tournament or the festival. Sea Pines Recreation answers questions at 843-842-1979.

Gregg Russell takes the stage under the Liberty Oak in spring and summer. The Sea Pines Resort describes his Thanksgiving and Christmas shows as "special performances."

That's from the resort's 2026 concert schedule. Over the summer he played Monday through Thursday for much of the season. In the holiday stretch there are only two dates: Friday, November 27, and the Christmas Show on Wednesday, December 23, both from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Guests in town only for Thanksgiving get one chance to see him this season, and it's Friday night.

Friday kicks off the next five weeks

The tree lighting also opens Harbour Town Lights, which runs from November 27 through January 1, with lit displays along the marina and the Christmas tree as the centerpiece. All season, there's a collection well near the big tree in the Liberty Oak area. It takes canned goods and new, unwrapped children's toys for the Deep Well Project.

Deep Well describes itself as a mostly volunteer Hilton Head nonprofit. It helps island neighbors in emergencies with basic needs such as food, rent, school uniforms and housing repairs. The toys go to its Santa Shop. There, parents of children ages 1 to 12 come in at scheduled appointment times and choose new toys and clothes. The shop opens around December 10 to 17, and the dates shift a little each year. In recent years it has served 800 to 900 children who live on Hilton Head Island. Toy donations are accepted through December 24. The well is open all season, but the toys are needed by the time the shop opens. A toy dropped off on concert night has more time to reach a family than one dropped off on December 23.

The regular weekend meals keep going through Thanksgiving weekend and well past it. Coast's Saturday oyster roasts run every Saturday from October 10, 2026, through February 27, 2027, so there's one on November 28. Harbourside's Sunday lobster bake runs through December 27, 2026. Guests staying through Sunday have a dinner plan for each weekend night after Friday.

Getting guests through the gate

Every one of these events is behind the gate, so a visiting family's first cost is the entry pass. Here are Sea Pines Community Services Associates' current visitor rates for a standard two-axle car:

Pass Fee
Casual Daily Visitor Pass $10
Casual Weekly Visitor Pass $30
Short-term Rental Weekly Pass $20

A relative staying elsewhere on the island who comes in Wednesday for the 5K, Thursday for dinner, Friday for the full day and Saturday for oysters would buy four daily passes, which comes to $40. One weekly pass covers the same stretch for $30. Passes are sold at the Greenwood Gate and the Ocean Gate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. At the Greenwood Drive gate, buyers need to stay in the right-hand lane. Daily visitors who aren't staying inside Sea Pines can't enter on a bicycle.

Property owners can get guest passes for friends and family at the Welcome Center drive-through, 32 Greenwood Drive. Pass questions go to the Community Connection Center at 843-671-1343. The center at 175 Greenwood Drive moved to weekday hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 2, half an hour earlier than before. If you have a pass question about Friday guests, call before 4 p.m. on a weekday that week. Gate fees and pass rules come from the CSA and can change, so its page is the source to check before guests arrive.

Lynne has spent more than 35 years on Hilton Head and has watched a lot of Thanksgiving Fridays end under the Liberty Oak. If you're hosting this year and want local advice on Sea Pines, from which gate pass fits your guests to a more lasting question about the community, the Lynne Anderson Luxury Team would be glad to talk.
